Summary

Is it ever too late to leave the friend-zone?

Hi, my name is Bree Camden, and I’m hopelessly in love with my best friend and star quarterback Nathan Donelson (so is half of America, judging by the tabloids and how much the guy dates)。 The first step is admitting, right? Except, I can never admit it to him because he clearly doesn’t see me that way, and the last thing I want is for things to get weird between us。

Nothing but good old-fashioned, no-touching-the-sexiest-man-alive, platonic friendship for us! Everything is exactly how I like it! Yes。 Good。 (I’m not crying, I’m just peeling an onion。)

Our friendship is going swimmingly until I accidentally spill my beans to a reporter over too much tequila, and now the world seems to think me and Nathan belong together。 Oh, and did I mention we have to date publicly for three weeks until after the Super Bowl because we signed a contract with。。。oops, forgot I can’t tell anyone about that!

Bottom line is, now my best friend is smudging all the lines and acting very un-platonic, and I’m just trying to keep my body from bursting into flames every time he touches me。

How am I going to make it through three weeks of fake dating Nathan without anything changing between us? Especially when it almost-sort-a-kinda seems like he’s fighting for a completely different outcome?

Send help。
XO Bree

I was hooked from the beginning with this one! I wanted to give this one 5 stars, but couldn't for several reasons。 I felt at times it was a tad overboard with the predictive storyline。 I found myself skimming ahead some to avoid reading to over worded parts。 And - although this is a romance, I personally had hopes for some more spice。 I was really looking forward to this, as the author did a beautiful job building up the tension between the pair, however I felt myself let down a bit when it was non-existent when the moment arrived。 It does obviously end on a HEA, and if the smut part wouldn't bother you - you will greatly enjoy this one! 。。。more

This was my first Sarah Adams book。 I thought it was super cute and a fun read。 I listened to the audiobook version and enjoyed the narrators。 Renee Dorian was amazing and I loved how she did a lot of voices and added personality to the story。 And Teddy Hamilton is always great。 I will say the quality of the audiobook is poor。 There are quite a few lines that are edited in that are not at the same tone or volume as the surrounding sentences。 I'm sure there's a technical term for this。 This happe This was my first Sarah Adams book。 I thought it was super cute and a fun read。 I listened to the audiobook version and enjoyed the narrators。 Renee Dorian was amazing and I loved how she did a lot of voices and added personality to the story。 And Teddy Hamilton is always great。 I will say the quality of the audiobook is poor。 There are quite a few lines that are edited in that are not at the same tone or volume as the surrounding sentences。 I'm sure there's a technical term for this。 This happens once twice in a lot of audiobooks, but this happened much more frequently in this book to the point of being distracting。While I enjoyed the author's joyful tone, I did have some quibbles with the story。 It's difficult to know how much to suspend disbelief for the sake of a fun story。 But in my opinion, this one goes a bit too far。 I think it was perhaps a mistake for Nathan's character to be an NFL player because some of his behaviors seemed really out of character for a professional athlete。 And I didn't feel like the author communicated an understanding of professional athletes。There are a number of instances when I felt this, but most at the very end。 I remember when my local NFL team lost a heartbreaking Superbowl, an article in the paper said that several of the players literally couldn't walk on their own power back to the team bus because they'd truly left everything on the field and were hurt。 And win or lose, I just don't think any professional athlete is going to have the energy to have a wedding right after the game。。。if the team would even allow it because it's my belief that both teams will fly back to their home cities the night after the game and all members are required to be there。 I can't imagine an professional team that would let their players, let alone the losers of the game, to run lose in Las Vegas。 It seems like the beginning of a PR nightmare。Also, in terms of motivation this doesn't ring true。 It feels super disrespectful to propose on the field after the game。 It's disrespectful to the winners, who should be the focus of the excitement。 And it hints at a disloyalty to Nathan's own teammates。 Like maybe if he was more dialed into the game instead of his wedding, the team might have won。 I think this is a completely fair quibble。 If in my corporate job, we failed as a team to land a deal and one of the key members left right away to elope, I'd question their dedication to the job and the team at such a critical moment。All that said, I actually loved that a modern romance ended in a wedding which rarely happens。 I just wish the story to get there had been better executed。 。。。more

I wanted to punch a wall after reading this。Like I stopped at page 200 after they confessed their feelings because people in their 30s acting like 13-year-old are all quirky and uwu is not something I would want to read, The second-hand embarrassment I got from this。

3。5/5⭐️ / 🌶This was a really fun, easy read friends-to-lovers novel。 Duel POVs had me drooling and the relationship between Bree and Nathan’s mates was legitimately everything to me。 Light on the spice which I was a little surprised about, but given what a slow burn it was, I was grateful for the scenes we did get (and I do mean plural as in two)。 Recommend for a fun, easy read to get out of a slump or needing to decompress after a really emotional book!

Several cute moments, but overall a bit of a miss forme and here’s why…Bree bothered me。 I felt like she was annoyingly immature (like what grown ass woman thinks that stuff?)Bree was clueless for way too long。 Too many pages of her in denial when it was glaringly obvious all along how he felt… Nathan didn’t hide it well at all and didn’t even want to hide it for that matter。 Women can pretend that they’re clueless, but they never usually are and this aspect of her character was super frustratin Several cute moments, but overall a bit of a miss forme and here’s why…Bree bothered me。 I felt like she was annoyingly immature (like what grown ass woman thinks that stuff?)Bree was clueless for way too long。 Too many pages of her in denial when it was glaringly obvious all along how he felt… Nathan didn’t hide it well at all and didn’t even want to hide it for that matter。 Women can pretend that they’re clueless, but they never usually are and this aspect of her character was super frustrating to the point where I didn’t like her very much。I was disappointed that 90% of the book was willful miscommunication。 I wish they had gotten together WAY earlier。 When they finally do, it ends 20 pages later。 The characters had good banter (when she isn’t talking about him physically or denying the millions of ways he so obviously likes her) and I would have liked to see them in a relationship for more than 30 seconds。Bree literally talked about how hot Nathan is way too much。 Literally 85% of her thoughts are about him physically。 K yeah, we get it。 Move on please。 Having said that, I was entertained in the way a Hallmark movie would entertain me。 It was better than being bored。 I really liked Nathan actually and ultimately thought he was too good for Bree, which may be more of a negative than positive, but I’m trying。 Haha。 I appreciated that Nathan was just a nice guy who would have done anything for Bree。 He wasn’t broody or emotionally distant and manipulative in any way… a rare find in books! I just wish Bree’s maturity would have matched his! I just don’t think the “fake dating” trope is my favorite - especially when both people are into each other from the beginning and it takes 260 of the 300 pages for them to figure it out。 。。。more

3⭐️It was fine, just that。 At first it was an easy read and as the chapters are quite short, I felt intrigued。I guess the author wanted to build a slow burn。 From the begging of the book we already know they have been friends for years; and both of them have been in love with the other since they met。 But then the story didn’t develop much- I had read 75% percent of the book and at that point they hadn’t told the other how in love they felt。The dual POV is a resource I love but here, damn, I fou 3⭐️It was fine, just that。 At first it was an easy read and as the chapters are quite short, I felt intrigued。I guess the author wanted to build a slow burn。 From the begging of the book we already know they have been friends for years; and both of them have been in love with the other since they met。 But then the story didn’t develop much- I had read 75% percent of the book and at that point they hadn’t told the other how in love they felt。The dual POV is a resource I love but here, damn, I found it really repetitive。 Both characters only talk about their love for the other and how their lover doesn’t realize they want more than just a friendship。I like those cliche scenes when one of the characters doesn’t realize that his/her friend is doing something because they romantically care about him/her。 But damn, that resource was OVERUSED here。 Every time Bree did something for Nathan, he didn’t realize she was in love with him and viceversa。 That’s the plot in the story, both characters doing stuff for each other cause they care romantically about the other (but they won’t confess) and the other doesn’t realize his/friend is also in love The background stories of the characters related with sports and how under pressure they are most of the time was a nice bonus on the story and it was well written。 We have Bree whose dancing abilities were really important for her in order to get a good degree at college and study, while Nathan whose position in his team was gifted (as eveything else in his life) and he feels he has to prove he is good enough to everyone- fans, his team and even his own parents。 However, I wish the author had given this topic a longer approach in the story, and not only use it to add drama 🫠 I felt like the important moments about Nathan dealing with panic attacks and anxiety was eclipsed by the waited confession between Nathan and Bree。 I felt the characters behaved a little bit childish too, which didn’t make sense as they were supposed to be young adults。On the whole, it’s a nice and quick romance comedy。 Not the best one I’ve read but not the worst either。 。。。more

WOW! I don't think I have all the words to accurately describe how much I loved this book。 I had so much fun following along with these characters, and I need a Nathan in my life。 This is by far the healthiest and best romance book I've read so far。 I've never cried over how sweet a scene was in a book, I usually only cry when it's sad but you best believe I cried like a baby reading this book because it was so precious。 Sarah Adams is by far a new favorite author of mine, and she is an instant WOW! <3> bree and nathanah idk about this book tbh。 it was lowkey kinda cringy at times and like so many unnecessary stuff was told。 it was like 30 year olds acting like kids。 and i feel like the ending was very stretched。 like the last few chapters were so not needed and she couldve just jumped to the epilogue。 idk i dont think i'd recommend this book。 <3> bree and nathanah idk about this book tbh。 it was lowkey kinda cringy at times and like so many unnecessary stuff was told。 it was like 30 year olds acting like kids。 and i feel like the ending was very stretched。 like the last few chapters were so not needed and she couldve just jumped to the epilogue。 idk i dont think i'd recommend this book。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I wanted to love this a whole lot more than I did, but if there's one thing I can't get past, it's my absolute dislike for miscommunication/misunderstanding as one of the main tropes for a story。 Whilst yes, I can understand that people feel scared to express their true feelings, this whole friend zone issue could have been sorted a whole lot earlier if either one of the main characters had bothered to just talk about it。 And given how close they are as friends, it's not an unreasonable question I wanted to love this a whole lot more than I did, but if there's one thing I can't get past, it's my absolute dislike for miscommunication/misunderstanding as one of the main tropes for a story。 Whilst yes, I can understand that people feel scared to express their true feelings, this whole friend zone issue could have been sorted a whole lot earlier if either one of the main characters had bothered to just talk about it。 And given how close they are as friends, it's not an unreasonable question。Another thing I didn't particularly enjoy (which is just my own personal opinion) was how self-deprecating Bree was towards herself for almost the whole story。 I understand having some hesitations maybe when your best friends a hot NFL star, but it was almost too over the top, and I contemplated several times DNF'ing because it just irked me。The ending definitely came in clutch。 It might have taken a panic attack to get them there, but they finally opened up about their feelings and the rest of the story was what I love to see in a best friends to lovers book。 Don't expect any smut in this book, because there isn't any nor do I think the story really needs it。 Overall, not a bad story, but just not probably for my particular taste。 。。。more

If you’re looking for a sweet read that makes your heart smile, this is the one。 It was everything I expected it to be and sprinklings of unexpected。 Adams crafts characters with depth that make you want to root for them during their cheesy, but precious storyline。 The alternating perspectives draw you in to both sides of the story in a way that make you want for more。 In addition, it’s also a clean read without sacrificing chemistry and that was just what I needed。 All in all, a great read and If you’re looking for a sweet read that makes your heart smile, this is the one。 It was everything I expected it to be and sprinklings of unexpected。 Adams crafts characters with depth that make you want to root for them during their cheesy, but precious storyline。 The alternating perspectives draw you in to both sides of the story in a way that make you want for more。 In addition, it’s also a clean read without sacrificing chemistry and that was just what I needed。 All in all, a great read and will be recommending for sure。 。。。more
